 Oakland Hunger Outreach

This ministry will be a joint ministry initially between St. Paul's Cathedral and COR.  Our long-term vision is to invite the churches of Oakland to participate in stocking the Food Pantry, providing volunteer workers and collecting contributions to financially strengthen its reach.
St. Paul's Food Pantry is open 9am - 4pm Monday -Friday.

C.O.R. BOOK CLUB

The Carrie Holmes Memorial Book Club at the Community of Reconciliation usually meets monthly on Sunday after church from about 12:30 – 1:30 pm or so.  We are an informal group of people who love to read and talk about the books we choose.  We meet informally and bring food to share.  After a brief meal, whoever originally suggested the book of the month, leads the discussion.  We all contribute to the discussion and, as you can see below, we read a great variety of fiction and nonfiction.  For a book to be chosen, it must be readily available through the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh as we do not make people purchase books.

Following is a brief list of some of the books we have read since the Book Club was founded in February 2002:  Faces at the Bottom of the Well (Derrick Bell), Taliban:  Militant Islam & Fundamentalism in the Middle East (Ahmed Rashid), Go Tell It On the Mountain (James Baldwin), The Bluest Eye (Toni Morrison), The Wedding (Dorothy West), All About Love (bell hooks), The Red Tent (Anita Diamant), The Big Sea (Langston Hughes), Blindness (Jose Saramago), Reversible Errors (Scott Turow), Traveling Mercies (Annie Lamott), Stitches In Air (Liane Ellison Norman), Prodigal Summer (Barbara Kingsolver), The Bridge of San Luis Rey (Thornton Wilder), Pebble in the Sky (Isaac Asimov), Flowers for Algernon (Daniel Keyes), The DaVinci Code (Dan Brown), Lovely Bones (Ann Sebold), My Stroke of Insight: A Brain Scientist's Personal Journey (Jill Bolte Taylor).

Please see Dolly Mason or Ann Mason for details

COREA: COR Equality Alliance

A G.L.B.T. group that will gather out of our love of God for fellowship, support & advocacy.  Open to all G.L.B.T. folk and people who love and support them.

Sisters of the Spirit (SoS)

Women of all ages are welcome for fellowship and spiritual nurture.  A monthly women's Bible study began this ministry over six years ago, as women of all ages gathered together to break open the Word of God.  The fellowship continues 2nd Saturdays each month as the SoS gather for fellowship, spiritual reflection & encouragement, and to participate in service projects.

 Growing in Christ C.L.A.S.S.es

This is a program of intentional spiritual growth that begins with our Mark C.L.A.S.S. for new participants to our congregation.  The program continues with our Matthew C.L.A.S.S. that focuses on Spiritual Gifts; our Luke C.L.A.S.S. that focuses on evangelism; and our John C.L.A.S.S. that is designed to empower new ministries.  The "C.L.A.S.S." acronym is taken from Rick Warren's Purpose Driven church Model and stands for Christian Life and Service Seminars.

Healthy Church Ministry
This ministry is for all those seeking to celebrate the goodness of God in healthy life-giving ways.  Having begun as a Spiritual Weight-Loss group, participants of this ministry encourage activities that get our congregation moving and sharing meals that support healthy eating habits.  Currently hosting weekly a Gospel & Soul Line Dancing class on Fridays and Last Fridays Line Dance Parties.

Oakland Outreach

This group works with our Outreach Minister in three different Oakland communities:  campus ministry at Pitt and CMU, community ministry with community, church  and business groups, and school ministry working with the students in secondary school in the Oakland neighborland.
This ministry was begun in 2002 to support our efforts to connect with our community.  It was begun by a COR Youth Group that encouraged us to reach out to the many students that attend secondary school in our neighborhood.  Since that time we have offered Spoken Word Poetry SLAMS for high school students and become a Community Partner to Frick International Academy sponsoring a Student Book Club, offering Computer Training workshops for faculty and staff, sending adult volunters to conduct mock interviews for students, supporting their Spring Musical, and underwriting a new program --9th Grade Nation--designed to integrate 9th graders into their curriculum and student life.
